The concept of 4K resolution has always been pretty challenging to communicate to those who have not experienced it, which makes marketing consoles like Xbox One X, that support that kind of massive pixel count, not exactly a walk in the park.
Yet, Microsoft thinks that the community itself will do the trick, as side-by-side comparisons will start to pop up. During an interview at Gamescom in Cologne, Xbox Games Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg told DualShockers
Greenberg thinks that when games supporting Xbox One X will start launching, and gamers see what true 4K looks like, they will be “pretty impressed.” Lots of side-by-side comparisons are gonna appear and help with that.
Asked whether Microsoft is going to release some of its own as well, Greenberg appeared to be iffy on it. He answered “maybe,” but added that it’s done so much even without Micosoft’s input both by press and fans, and personally he prefers that, because it’s independent and people can see the results on their own.
That being said, Microsoft is “confident” that when people see side-by-side comparisons like the one for Rise of the Tomb Raider, they will be able to see the difference.
According to Greenberg, Microsoft doesn’t want to take shots at the competition, and they simply want people to be able to decide for themselves. He thinks that games look great on PS4 Pro, they look great on Xbox One S, and it all depends on what type of gamer someone is, what matters to them, and their budget.
During the same interview, Greenberg also told us that Microsoft is in talks with Sony to try and convince them to join the cross-play party on Minecraft, and that Xbox One fans can expect more Japanese games in the future.
