The Ripple Effect Studios’ mystery mode for Battlefield 2042 has been revealed prior to the EA Play event later today. Let’s find out more about Battlefield Portal, its maps, rules, and sandbox features.
From the very first trailer of the game, it was pretty obvious that Electronic Arts wants to make fans really happy with Battlefield 2042. We should’ve guessed from that Battlefield 3 moment in the reveal trailer that there would be more nostalgic moments in the game.

Later today at the EA Play Live event, Electronic Arts will show more about the upcoming entry of the Battlefield series, but we already have a detailed launch roadmap on the new Portal mode.
What is Battlefield Portal?
This is an ultimate community-driven mode in Battlefield 2042, where players have access to a sandbox editor system. Not only you can customize the Battlefield 2042 maps, but also visit the recreated versions of some popular maps from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.
The craziest part about the Battlefield Portal though is about the ability to change the rules of the game. The mode features a Rules Editor that allows players to create their very own game modes on their favorite maps. That being said, you will need to have a basic knowledge of programming to be able to use the Rules Editor and create your own game modes.
Battlefield Portal Release Date
Unfortunately, the Portal mode won’t be available when Battlefield 2042 launches. It has been planned as a post-launch update, and the exact release date is yet to be announced.
