The wizarding world just got a whole lot blockier. A small team is re-creating several environments from the popular Harry Potter franchise on Minecraft, and they look brilliant.
In the trailer above, a small team called Floo Network (which is a great nod) has built many of the iconic locations from the Harry Potter films. This includes Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Diagon Alley, the Burrow, Privet Drive, Hogsmeade, and much more. They are quite faithful to the film versions, which is very impressive.
This recreation of the wizarding world is more than just for show. It is a fully functional map, complete with quests and puzzles. The gameplay shown featured a lot of puzzle-solving, but there was quite a bit of combat against creatures like pixies and dementors. The trailer also showed some of the loot you’ll be earning, such as coins, wizard cards, and butterbeer.
This wouldn’t be Minecraft if you couldn’t play with a bunch of friends. As such, you’ll be able to explore blocky hallowed halls of Hogwarts and get a butterbeer in Hogsmeade with all magical buddies.
There isn’t an official date for when this map will be available. However, if you support Floo Network’s Patreon, you can get access to the current version of the map. There is also a Discord channel that will properly update you on what is happening with the project.
The Harry Potter-themed map will be free-to-play, but you may want to check the requirements you need to adhere to in order to play on the map. On the frequently asked section of Floo Network’s Discord channel, it states that the version with gameplay will only work for Minecraft Java Edition. That means current versions, like the Bedrock edition, will not be supported as of yet.
In other Minecraft-related news, Markus “Notch” Persson (the creator of Minecraft) seems to be on the fence on creating a new game development studio.
