As two of last year’s most critically-acclaimed games, The Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds were major successes in light of the fact that the two happened to share incredibly similar names, were both set in outer space, and involved exploration. The confusion that resulted between trying to identify both games was one of 2019’s most prolonged running jokes, and a fan-made crossover hasn’t helped make it any easier to distinguish between the two games.

Game Maker’s Toolkit, the long-running YouTube video essay series created by Mark Brown, added more fuel to the fire of trying to properly identify the two Outer games by creating swapped versions of their logos in the style of The Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds. Simply posted with the caption “I’m so sorry for doing this,” the joke of trying to figure out which game is which will seemingly continue for the foreseeable future.
Thankfully, the internet is taking to the joke pretty well. Annapurna Interactive (the publisher of Outer Wilds) responded with their own reaction to the swapped logos, and one fan took it upon themselves to take things a step further by switching the box art.

Haha, very good!

Additionally, Outer Wilds writer Kelsey Beachum shared her own reaction to the logo swap in a similar fashion. However, as one other Twitter user pointed out, an interesting wrinkle in the mix is the fact that Beachum joined The Outer Worlds creator Obsidian Entertainment earlier this year. Given that these two games’ fates seem forever intertwined, it seems to only make sense that we’ll eventually get a crossover between them down the line to continue the Outer space games’ saga. Or at the very least, give us a crossover DLC; Mobius Digital and Obsidian, make it so.
You are literally the most appropriate person to respond to this.
