The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker by Nintendo flew onto our screens back in 2002 for Japan and 2003 for Europe and America. The popular title was the tenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series and fans loved it – many regarding it as one of the best games ever made with the core gameplay being the best in the series.

The Wind Waker has many fans all over the world from every background possible, but one super fan from China went above and beyond to create the ultimate homage in craftsmanship to show his love for the title. Creator Wild hui uncle took to their tools and amped their imagination to the max to showcase a wonderfully creative wooden The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker automaton. Each detail is breathtakingly precise with its delicate handpainted seagulls, Link, and boat.

As Link sets sail, we see the rolling waves are made from small wooden slats that when manually turned by a handle at the side, it gives the effect of a rough sea making the boat bounce just like it would in real life. Wild hui uncle even went as far as to recreate some seagulls that accompany Link on his voyage – “flying” gracefully at either side of the vessel. Of course, like the waves, the seagulls are controlled by the turning lever, but it’s done so well that the birds fly in sync with every other movement. It really is pure genius.

If, like me, you want to know where you can get your hands on this work of art so you can show it off to friends and family – or maybe just turn it into a shrine – unfortunately, you can’t buy it. Wild hui uncle has stated that making things like this is purely a hobby that he just loves to do due to his love for The Legend of Zelda and they will never be used for any commercial purposes. Keep your secrets then, Wild hui!

Although, this notion may change now that his work has reached a wider audience due to The Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley sharing Wild hui’s passionate pastime on Twitter. I can almost guarantee some big offers rolling in that may change his mind – at least that’s what I’m hoping but whatever happens, I hope Wild hui uncle continues with his incredible work and I also hope to have it on my coffee table, too.
