Sword Art Online characters who aren’t supposed to appear in the first part of the Alicization arc were strongly teased in SAO Alicization Lycoris.
Bandai Namco and Dengeki Online held the SAO Game Fan Kanshasai 2020 event on March 7. The event was streamed and was mixed up a bit, as no live audience was present due to Coronavirus COVID-19 concerns. The stream had multiple segments, each focusing on different Sword Art Online games. What’s important is how besides new gameplay for Alicization Lycoris, Silica’s seiyuu, Rina Hidaka was also present the whole stream.
When the Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris segment rolled over, Rina Hidaka pressed game Producer Yousuke Futami for answers regarding whether Silica appears in the game or not. At the 1:35:37 mark on the stream, Producer Futami first answered that Silica doesn’t appear in SAOAL. However, he added that we should wait for further information regarding characters who were in the real world and didn’t join Underworld in the early part of Alicization arc, which includes Silica. Hidaka Rina also mentioned how Silica has been in all SAO games so far, so there’s no reason why she wouldn’t be in this one either, and how they wouldn’t have told her to come to this event if not.
Japanese streams are 100% scripted, and nothing is left to chance, meaning they wouldn’t have had this discussion meaninglessly. Meaning it’s likely characters such as Silica, Lisbeth, Leafa, and Sinon will appear in Alicization Lycoris. At worst, they will probably be added as DLC, as past SAO games added Alicization arc characters Alice and Eugeo this way.
The event also delivered some new Sword Art Online Alicization lycoris gameplay:
- 1:41:25 -1:47:56 – New boss fight with a party made of Kirito, the sisters Linel and Fizel, and Eldrie.
- 2:16:40 – Excerpt of an event CG scene with Tiese falling over Kirito in typical anime fashion.
