Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, like its name implies, has really been the ultimate dream for fans of Nintendo and gaming in general. The massive fighting game has continually added new characters from a variety of franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Persona, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and more. Of course, aside from being able to play as these iconic characters, several of them have also gotten their own amiibo figurines to bring them home, with several new amiibo coming in the future for the game’s DLC characters.
During the latest DLC character reveal for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the game’s director Masahiro Sakurai shared a few updates on other content around the game. Specifically, Sakurai gave some new details on upcoming amiibo for the game’s roster of characters, while showing us a first look at two new amiibo coming later this year.
Sakurai confirmed that both Persona 5‘s Joker and Dragon Quest XI‘s Hero will be getting amiibo figurines in fall 2020, with two sample (not final) versions of the figurines shown in the video. Additionally, Sakurai also confirmed that other amiibo are planned to release for the game’s DLC fighters, though clarified that “we don’t know how many of them will actually be produced.” Fingers crossed we at least get a figurine for our boy Banjo.
Sakurai also stated that at this point, all of the game’s main roster of playable characters (ie non-DLC characters) have had amiibo figurines released by Nintendo. However, Sakurai clarified that several of the characters’ amiibo figures are based on their designs from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, giving a tease that we could perhaps see new iterations of previous characters (such as Zelda and Ganondorf) that utilize their more recent designs from Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
