Super Smash Bros Ultimate is now the best selling fighting game of all time. Nintendo released their Top Selling Unit Sales as of March 31, 2019. On the list, Nintendo announced the ten best selling games on Switch and revealed that Super Smash Bros Ultimate has currently sold 13.81 million copies worldwide.
With the number of copies it has sold, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now dethroned its own predecessor as the best selling fighting game. Super Smash Bros Brawl previously had the top spot, not including all the different versions of Street Fighter II or Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS that cumulatively pass it, with 13.30 units sold.
This is an incredible feat since the game has been out for only four months. The Super Smash Bros franchise is so popular due to its unique mechanics and approachability for players compared to more traditional fighting games. It is not surprising that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took the top spot, but how quickly it achieved that goal was certainly impressive.
It is likely that sales for the game will increase due to the recent release of Persona 5’s Joker and the continuation of more DLC characters. After the release of all the DLC, it will be interesting to see how far the sales of the game will have gone. Regardless of when we will receive the next batch of news for the game, it is going to be a good year for Smash.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available exclusively for Nintendo Switch and can be picked up on Amazon.
