Less than a month from Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct and with just over a month to go until the game’s release, Nintendo held a mini-Direct that specifically focused on Super Mario Maker 2. This Direct mainly served as an overview of the game, letting players know anything they would conceivably want to know about Super Mario Maker 2.

Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Mario Maker 2 was announced during a Nintendo Direct in February 2019; that being said, not many specifics outside of the addition of slopes and a Super Mario 3D World aesthetic have been delved into since then. Things like vertical sublevels, scroll stopping, cranes, on/off switches, Snake Blocks, changing water level, new sound effects, new music by Koji Kondo, and more were highlighted over the course of the presentation. There are new course themes like Desert, Snow, Forest, and Sky. Super Mario 3D World also brings several new items and enemies with its theme.

The biggest reveal of the direct is Story mode, where Mario completes several levels created by Nintendo to rebuild Peach’s Castle, and the Moon and Night versions of themes, which will change level properties, and multiplayer. As a huge fan of the original Super Mario Maker for Wii U, I am definitely looking forward to Super Mario Maker 2 as it could deliver a portable Mario Maker experience that isn’t neutered.  All of the small tweaks, new enemies, and new items, and more only sweeten the deal.

Check out the Direct for yourself below. Super Mario Maker 2 releases for Nintendo Switch on June 28, 2019 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon right now. Nintendo Switch Online Game Vouchers can also be purchased to get two $60 games for only $99.99. There will also be an Invitational Tournament for the game at E3 2019.
