To go along with last week’s massive Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury announcements, the Super Mario UK Twitter page had even more to reveal on Jan. 20.
For the first time ever, the Captain Toad levels featured in the original Wii U release of Super Mario 3D World will include four-player cooperative play. Thanks to Nintendo, you no longer need to be the only one confused about how to solve one of the many puzzles seen in the game.
The Captain Toad levels were very popular upon the game’s original release in 2013. So much so that Nintendo released a standalone title, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, in 2014 for Wii U and an upgraded version on Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Despite Toadette being the second playable character in the standalone title, she is noticeably absent as a playable character in the upcoming Switch port. Instead, the other three potential players can control a blue toad with glasses, a green toad, and a yellow one. Sorry Toadette fans, but perhaps you will find love in a different castle.
In Dualshockers’ review of Captian Toad: Treasure Tracker, we said that it “is a game that shouldn’t be missed for anyone looking for a relaxed mental challenge.” Dualshockers also scored the original release of 3D World a 9.5 out of 10, saying that was “unmatched by any other game on the Wii U.” With the inclusion of the intriguing Bowser’s Fury, revisiting this Mario adventure appears to be worth the price of admission.
Only time will tell if adding four players to the mix ends up creating more fun or chaos when the game launches on February 12, 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
