A recent collaboration between Capcom’s Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and Japanese footwear and fashion brand company Onitsuka Tiger resulted in some pretty awesome looking sneakers worn by one of the main fighters in the long-running franchise — Chun-Li. There will only be 5,000 pairs of these released, so needless to say they’re pretty limited edition.
The footwear, based off the outfit colors worn by the “First Lady of Fighting,” comes in two styles and color schemes. According to the official site “the entire upper is printed with a graphic of a dragon that is used for the banding of costumes worn by Chun-Li, and the heel flap is engraved with the Onitsuka Tiger and Street Fighter logos.” The sneakers themselves are based on the MEXICO 66 SD model, which is considered the icon of Onitsuka Tiger.
As a nifty bonus, the shoes also include a special product code that allows players to use Chun-Li’s unique Onitsuka Tiger costume in the game.
Both sneakers will launch on July 27th for 18,000 yen (roughly $180 each) to Onitsuka Tiger retail stores worldwide. So if you’re interested in them, it might be a good idea to save the date to get your hands on a pair or two.
This isn’t the first time Street Fighter V has gotten special content (although you didn’t unlock past in-game pieces by buying sweet kicks). Previous promotions involved a Resident Evil costume collaboration and special holiday-themed outfits for certain characters.
If you’re interested in Street Fighter V itself and haven’t gotten the game yet, today is the last day to take advantage of Capcom’s special promotion, making the game free to play on both PS4 and PC. As an aside to dedicated PC players, that version is removing DirectInput options for Direct PS4 Controller input, meaning you’ll need to configure by Steam’s settings.
You can purchase Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition here if you haven’t gotten the game yet.
