If you watched the most recent trailer from XO19, then you know that the protagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis, eventually wields a double-bladed lightsaber. This lightsaber upgrade is one of the biggest changes in the moment-to-moment gameplay of Fallen Order, aside from making you look like a badass.
If you stick to the story’s path, you won’t get the upgrade for quite a while. However, there is a way to get the double-bladed lightsaber very early in your playthrough. If you are up for the challenge, this guide will help you get the upgrade within your first few hours of playing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Warning: There are probably spoilers in this guide. Heck, the double-bladed lightsaber thing is technically a spoiler but EA showed off the upgrade in a promotional trailer. Fair game now, gamers.
When Can You Get the Double-Bladed Lightsaber Upgrade in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?
The simple answer: very early.
After you’ve completed the first sequence and completed the first mission on Bogano, you will be able to access two new planets: Kashyyyk and Dathomir. Going to Kashyyyk will continue the story, and you’ll also see a familiar face there (it is not who you think). However, if you take a detour to Dathomir, you can find the double-bladed lightsaber upgrade. So, yes, you can get it after you’ve played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for a couple of hours.
It should be noted that you are not supposed to be here. Although it does give you the option, it is vastly harder than the critical path and you will potentially die a lot. In fact, Cere and Greezy imply that Dathomir is a dangerous place and maybe not the best place to start Cal’s journey. That being said, it is worth grabbing the double-bladed lightsaber upgrade, as it makes some of the more overwhelming fights a bit easier to deal with.
Where on Dathomir is the Double-Bladed Lightsaber Upgrade?
When you arrive at Dathomir, you will take a right which leads to a wall of vines you can climb on. Once you’ve traversed the vine wall’s path you will be in the first main area of the planet. There will also be a very mean monster that will attack you. You can either fight or take an immediate right from where you mantled and climb up the short wall.
From here, you’ll head right until you’ve hit a short staircase which leads to a small alley. In that alley is another vine wall which you will have to climb. Once you make it up the wall, you’ll take a right and head towards the chest. From the chest, take a few jumps to the right. From here, you will see a weird arched tree trunk and a wooden platform. Head towards the wooden platform and keep following this path; there will be a few poisonous spiders, but they are easy to take care of with a small Force push.
This will lead to a longer staircase and a cutscene where you will meet a Nightsister. After the cutscene, you will get jumped by her two minions. Again, you can either fight or keep running straight from where you came. There will be a wide gap separating you from the Nightsister’s minions as you’ll have to swing across two ropes to get to the next section. There is also a meditation area, so you will be able to refill your stims or cash in some ability points if you garnered any on Dathomir.
Straight ahead is a staircase. Head towards it, but be wary. There are two archers and a melee Nightbrother you will have to worry about. Again, the Force is your friend. Luring them to an advantageous position and pushing them off a cliff was the method I chose to dispose of them. Running past them is an option as well.
Once you’ve made it up the stairs, do not go to the door. It is locked and you will probably get overwhelmed by the enemies and die. Instead, take a sharp right towards the archer and into the thin hallway. Follow the hallway’s path until you get to a fireplace; you will then head up the curved staircase to your right and into another hallway. Again, be careful of the Nightbrothers.
Once you’ve made it up the curved stairs and into the hallway, head down the hall until you pass the first set of statues and take a left towards the Nightbrother archer. This will lead you to a room with a wall-runnable area to the right and a randomly curved branch extending from it; additionally, there are two archers at the end of the hallway. You will have to run on the wall to the right in order to climb on the branch and get up to the two archers. Again, you can totally run past these guys or try to fight them.
Keep following the path past the two archers and jump down into the room with the Nightbrother and spider; if you want, you can pull off a stealth execution here. Head to the left and into the small hallway turning left at every turn until you see another Nightbrother archer. Rather than running past the archer, take a right and you will see a platform with a black hooded man just standing there.
If you want, you can initiate a cutscene. If you don’t really care to do that, head left towards the wooden platform and into another hallway. However, you will find a workbench. Just press R3 (on a DualShock 4) to use the workbench and Cal will install the double-bladed lightsaber upgrade.
Yeah, I know. It isn’t as epic of a reveal as it could have been. But hey, you can use the double-bladed lightsaber now.
