In addition to providing new content within the confines of Splatoon 2, Nintendo is also proving that they’re committed to providing new content outside of it. Yesterday morning Splatoon’s official Twitter account announced details for the game’s second official soundtrack, aptly titled Octotune.
The new soundtrack will be released on July 18th and will include two CDs made up of music that was added to the game after its initial release, music that will be added to the game following the forthcoming Octo Expansion downloadable content, and special live tracks performed by the group Off the Hook. In addition to these CDs, the soundtrack will also come with a Blu-ray containing a performance from The Squid Girls and Off the Hook at Games Party Japan 2018.

The details of this release have reignited speculation regarding the release date of Splatoon 2’s Octo Expansion. While it seems like this soundtrack would only come out after the expansion (seeing as it has music from the expansion on it), Nintendo has still not specified a release date for the new content.
Much ink has been spilled over Nintendo’s treatment of Splatoon 2. While Nintendo has plenty of aces up their sleeve (including the forthcoming Mario Tennis Aces, Super Smash Bros., and any other surprises Nintendo will throw our way at E3), they’re still steadfast in their commitment to the drip-feed of content they outlined for Splatoon 2. It seems like it’s impossible to boot the game up without being bombarded with the news of new maps, new weapons, and general balancing updates. Of course, as all Splatoon fans know, this excitement is usually dulled by Sheldon’s lengthy explanation of each new weapon, where spamming the A button is the only hope for getting through his ramblings in a timely manner.
Octotune is now available for pre-order on Play-Asia.
