It’s nearing the end of the Sanrio-themed Japanese splatfest tournament, and the final splattening will be taking place this weekend for Splatoon 2 players in Japan. The final faceoff will be between Hello Kitty and My Melody, and the loser (according to my head-canon, at least) will presumably be sacrificed to the glory of the inky gods of Splat.
Or something like that.
The splatfest will be happening from today, Saturday June 9 at 15:00 JST, until Sunday, June 10. While the North American and European players got a chance to decide which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle was best turtle, Japanese players get to do the same with Sanrio characters. Most would recognize Hello Kitty right away, but the Sanrio line features a number of adorable and cuddly characters, including My Melody the…gangster rabbit? Cool.
Either way, both characters were Pearl picks, so darling Pearl was gracious enough to give My Melody to Marina so that she could still participate. Smart money is on the widely known Hello Kitty, but anything can happen in a splatfest…
My Melody beat out Pompompurin for a spot in the finals, where she now rests comfortably as she awaits a chance at the crown. Hello Kitty unsurprisingly beat out Cinnamoroll, and now, the classic and beloved cat will fight Slim Shady the Rabbit to see once and for all who is the cutest. Like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle collaboration, a number of Sanrio-themed t-shirts and outfits available both for real-life wear and in-game Inklings are available now. Japanese players, it’s time to pick a side and do battle!
Splatoon 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch. You can pick up the game from Amazon right now.
