Today’s Indie World Showcase had several big announcements from Nintendo’s partners. And they kicked off the show with a massive announcement. Both original Spelunky and Spelunky 2 are making their way to Nintendo Switch next summer. For those of us who spent way too much time playing Spelunky on our Vitas, this is excellent news. It means we can finally take Spelunky 2 on the go, the way it was meant to be played. Check it out.

Of course, original Spelunky has been available just about everywhere for a while now. Honestly, it’s a bit surprising that we haven’t seen it show up on the Switch before now. After all, it’s one of those early indie games that really took the world by storm. And the Switch has been an indie machine since its launch. That said, it’s better late than never.
It’s great to see multiplayer also coming with both versions. Spelunky 2 has had some trouble getting its multiplayer working, but by next summer, they should have the kinks worked out. Obviously, it’s not the main way most people play. However, with the Switch being such a great family console, this is a great opportunity for some family hijinks.
Spelunky and Spelunky 2 come to Nintendo Switch sometime in summer 2021. The original game is available just about everywhere at this point. And Spelunky 2 is already on PC and PS4. So, if you just can’t wait, feel free to go pick it up on one of those platforms. I say this with a ton of bias, but it’s worth owning in multiple places so that you can have it with you where ever you might go.
