As genres continue to blur across the gaming industry, indie developer Spearhead Games is doing their best to pioneer a genre they are labeling the “narrative puzzle.” In doing so, they have revealed their newest project: Omensight. And based on the announcement trailer alone, it seems like there is a lot to get excited about with the game.

Sporting a (seemingly) similar artstyle to PyreOmensight takes the term revisionist history to a new extreme. Players take on the role of the “Harbringer,” an extra-chronological being who is looking to reverse the fate of war-ravaged Urralia. Using this power to change the past — the “Omensight” — you can meet up with key players in the worlds history, befriend (or maim) them, and change the fictional world for the better.

While that all seems like the setup of a Telltale-like adventure story, Spearhead has noted that there will be combat within the game. More specifically, when the decisions you make turn hostile the player will be able to use the Harbringer’s sword to manipulate time-shifting magic.

The team developing Omensight are not novices to the field, and instead this project is acting as an extension of player notes from the developer’s previous games. According to Creative Director Malik Boukhira:

When we released Stories: The Path of Destinies in 2016, we were thrilled with the response to its narrative structurePlayers told us how they enjoyed manipulating time to collect all the different endings in the game. With Omensight, our new original title set in a fresh universe, we’re taking this idea one step further. What we like to call the ‘narrative puzzle’ will extend to a range of diverse characters in Omensight, and we can’t wait to see how players navigate the intricacies of these characters’ actions and reactions to solve the mystery of Urralia’s demise.

Not only that, but the game boasts a voice-acting cast that draws from both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  (Patricia Summersett — Princess Zelda) and We Happy Few (Julian Casey — Uncle Jack), as well as script-writing support from the lead writer of Fallout: New Vegas (Chris Avellone).

To kick off the announcement, Spearhead Games has unveiled an announcement trailer which highlights the art direction, voice acting, and very basic dialogue of the story. You can check that trailer out below.

Currently, the game is slated for a PC-only release sometime in 2018. Check out both the announcement trailer and gallery below:
