Ninjala’s first season could be considered a relative success. The free-to-play game launched on Nintendo Switch at the end of June and has already notched up an incredibly impressive four million players. The game, which has drawn heavy comparisons to Splatoon for its art-style and gameplay, will be closing Season One on August 26/27, depending on where you live.

With the first season drawing to a close, the developers have shared some exciting information on what’s to come in Season Two, including a collaboration with everybody’s favourite blue hedgehog, Sonic.

The collaboration between Ninjala and Sega was revealed during the latest Developer Diary on YouTube. GungHo Online CEO Kazuki Morishita and Game Designer Motoki Kaneda headed the video but shared very little on what the crossover would hold other than the fact that it’s the “First In-Game collaboration.”

When the advertising image is displayed on the screen, it’s accompanied by text that states:

“Just how will this legenedary icon appear in the world of Ninjala? Stay tuned for more information in the future!”

While little is known about what’s coming from this new partnership with Sonic, we did get some more information on what to expect from Ninjala season 2. The new season will begin on August 26 (PDT), however, as season one doesn’t finish until 7 pm that day, it will likely be later.

Included in the new season will be a new weapon class with four additional weapons alongside new Gum Ninjitsu, abilities and special moves. There will also be two new “Board-type” weapons that aren’t outlined in the video.

The video then goes on to share details about a new episode of the Ninjala Anime series. The new episode will be focused around the hacker character Jane and her origins.

Ninjala is out now and is free to download on the Nintendo Switch. If you haven’t jumped in yet, is this collaboration going to make you? Let us know in the comments below.
