Another day, another delay. With everything going on this year, delays are unavoidable and ultimately best for all involved but we can’t seem to go more than a couple of days without one at the moment. The latest game to be hit by the delay train is the Switch port of a very popular mobile title, Sky: Children of the Light.
Sky is the latest game from Thatgamecompany, developers of Flower and Journey, and is described as a “Social adventure game.” It launched on iOS back in 2019 before coming to Android earlier this year – sadly for Switch fans however, the port has been delayed into next year. The developers cited COVID for the delay saying:
“As a small indie studio, it’s been challenging to pull off so many releases back to back. Due to the remote slowdown during COVID & our utmost priority to protect our team’s health, we’re pushing Sky on Nintendo Switch back by a few months into 2021.” before adding “Through the pandemic, we’ve done our best to release Sky on Android, manage a live game, and launch 2 new adventure seasons. We’ve been excited to finally bring this game to console as much as you have, and thank #thatskygame fans for their patience while we work on its release.”
Development of the game is described by Thatgamecompany in a blog post as being “in the final stretch” and they also confirm that they’ve hired more staff in order to help with the console port.
The gameplay of Sky: Children of the Light very much builds on that of Thatgamecompany’s smash hit Journey. Players explore a beautiful world and encounter spirits that offer items in exchange for special goods. Along their way, players will encounter other human players and can befriend them to unlock new abilities.
Sky: Children of the Light joins a plethora of other games that have received delays this year, including Halo: Infinite, Cyberpunk 2077 and Deathloop.
