The road to the release of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn has been a long one. While the game was crowdfunded on Indiegogo back in 2014 and received its first gameplay trailer in 2015, we haven’t heard too much about it since besides the fact that it is coming to Switch. The game clearly didn’t make its 2017 release window, but Wired Productions announced a retail version of the game today, confirming a Spring 2018 release.
While no exact release date was given, the developers seem pretty confident that the game will release both digitally and physically on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch within this window. Unfortunately, it seems like the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions are no longer in the cards, as they were not mentioned at all alongside this announcement.
Matt Karch, CEO of developer Saber Interactive, had the following to say about the physical release of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn:
“We know diehard fans have been waiting eagerly to experience the hard-hitting action of this new take on Shaq Fu, and we’re excited to team up with Wired Productions to get the game physically into the hands of players this spring.”
Saber Interactive and Wired Productions also re-confirmed that anyone who purchased NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch prior to June 10, 2017 will get the Switch version for free. They also tell backers to keep an eye on the game’s Indiegogo page, as they will be revealing the timing of the delivery of rewards there soon.
