Last week at SEGA Fes, the publisher announced the revival of SEGA Ages, a series of re-releases for classic SEGA games poised to hit Nintendo Switch. Now, after the dust from that event has settled, SEGA has revealed the first five SEGA Ages titles, and released screenshots of three of them.
These first five games will be Sonic the Hedgehog, Gain Ground, Thunder Force IV, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Phantasy Star. Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Phantasy Star initially released on the SEGA Master System in 1986 and 1987, respectively. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hegdehog, Gain Ground, and Thunder Force IV are SEGA Genesis titles; Sonic the Hedgehog and Gain Ground came out in 1991, while Thunder Force IV hit store shelves in 1992.
While Sonic the Hedgehog is clearly the initial header of the SEGA Ages lineup, it is nice to see that publisher and former console manufacturer is acknowledging some lesser known Genesis titles and even re-releasing some Master System games. These titles are only the start, and SEGA is even promising that some future SEGA Ages games will be ones that never officially released in the west.
Below, you can check out screenshots of Thunder Force IV, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Gain Ground. SEGA Ages titles will start releasing on Nintendo Switch this Summer.
