Since its release in 2018, Sea of Thieves has steadily become a thriving multiplayer experience like no other. To date, the game has amassed over 10 million players across Xbox One and PC while continually providing new updates and content to players. In just a few weeks, a new wave of players will have their chance to set a course for uncharted waters with the game’s upcoming Steam release.
Developer Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves will officially debut for Steam on June 3, 2020. The game’s impending Steam release has been known for some time, but now we know when players can set sail in the game through Steam.

According to Rare, the game will retail for $39.99 when it arrives on Steam. Additionally, Rare has also confirmed that the Steam version of Sea of Thieves will support full cross-play functions between Xbox One and PC players on either the Windows Store and Steam. Progression will also be carried over between each version of the game by logging into Xbox Live.
When we first reviewed the game in 2018, our own Michael Ruiz had some mixed feelings on Sea of Thieves. While it had a promising premise, charming style, and plenty of great social features, Michael detailed that “it’s also bogged down by tedious and repetitive voyages that reward you with meager pay.” However, like many other live-service games over the years, Sea of Thieves has seemed to change drastically over the last two years. This especially has been helped by the numerous content updates and new expansions that have changed and enhanced large parts of the game, such as the recent “Ships of Fortune” update in April.
Sea of Thieves is available now on Xbox One and PC.
