There’s no doubt about it that Samurai Shodown is one of the year’s best fighting games but as of now, SNK’s latest entry is only available on PS4 and Xbox One. Fortunately, the game will soon be coming to the Switch and we now have a better idea of just when that port will be arriving.
Announced via a new trailer, it was divulged that the Switch iteration of Samurai Shodown is set to launch in Q1 2020. For those who aren’t too good at division, that means that Samurai Showdown will arrive on Switch by March 2020 at the very latest. It’s still not the exact release date that many Switch owners were surely looking for, but it does narrow the window for launch just a bit.
Along with announcing this new release window, the new Switch trailer for Samurai Shodown showed off, what else, but some new gameplay footage. The gameplay is obviously all taken from the Switch version of the game and it actually looks pretty great, even compared to its PS4 and Xbox One counterparts. The trailer also shows off what Samurai Shodown will look like for those who play in handheld mode, too.
Lastly, it was also announced that anyone who pre-orders Samurai Shodown on Switch will net themselves a free copy of Samurai Shodown 2. This is the first port that the game has seen since it launched on the Neo Geo Pocket all the way back in 1999. If you’re a longtime Samurai Shodown fan, it’s a really cool little addition.
