The official launch date of SNK’s highly anticipated return the Samurai Shodown series has been revealed. The game will come to Xbox One and PS4 on June 27. Alongside this news, players were given their first look at three original characters and the game’s season pass. You can check out new screenshots down below.
The newly announced original characters are named Darli Dagger, Wu-Ruixiang, and Yashamaru Kurama. Dagger is a shipwright who uses a giant cleaver in battle. Wu-Ruixiang is a bit of an unconventional character as she uses her power to manifest a giant dragon, Kurama is more of the shinobi-samurai type and looks totally like my cup of tea. You can see them in action in the game’s latest trailer down below.
Samurai Shodown is also coming to Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, but those two titles will launch at a later date in winter of 2019. Players who buy the game early will have access to two retro-inspired costumes; one for Haohmaru and one for Nakoruru. Standard edition buyers will be limited to Haohmaru while those who pre-purchase the season pass or Deluxe Edition will gain access to Nakoruru on top of the other costume.
Players who decide to buy the season pass, which will cost them 2,000 yen (roughly $18), can expect four new characters. Three of these characters will release in the latter half of 2019, while the last will launch in early 2020. Finally, SNK will release an online-exclusive version of the game that’ll cost roughly 30,000 yen. It comes with a NeoGeo case, artbook, and a special illustration from Yumi Saji.
