Entergram announced its PS4, Switch adaptation of The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done will be launching in Japan on November 26. New screenshots and details on the game were shared as well.
Ryuuou no Oshigoto is divided into three parts. First off there’s the Adventure Part. Adventure games /ADV are the type of games called “Visual Novels” in the west: this is the story mode of the game. Next you have the Shogi Part, where you play Shogi against the characters. Lastly, there’s a Quiz Mode where you can enjoy learning how to play Shogi while spending time with the characters.
The Adventure Mode in itself is divided into two parts. There’s the Main Part which re-adapts the anime and light novel’s story, and the Original part, a brand new story specifically made for the game.
The characters’ AI for the Shogi parts were developed by Silver Star Japan, a studio known for its Shogi game series Ginsei Shogi and Real Time Battle Shogi. The characters actually play like they would in the original novel and anime, so following the story will give you hints as to how to counter them.
A Limited Edition for the game was also revealed, it features an alternative cover art featuring Ginko Sora, Ai Yashajin, and Ai Hinatsuru. The Limited Edition also includes a B2 tapestry of Ginko Sora, and a portable Shogi set. Shirabii, the illustrator of the original Ryuuou no Oshigoto! light novel, confirmed on Twitter he drew the Ginko tapestry artwork:
11月26日発売のりゅうおうのおしごと!のゲーム完全生産限定版に付いてくる姉弟子のタペストリーのイラストを描かせていただきました

The game will also include shop-specific preorder bonuses, but no samples were revealed yet. The shop list can be found on the official site.

Ryuuou no Oshigoto! is originally a light novel written by Shirow Shiratori. it’s been ongoing since 2015 and there are over 12 volumes so far. It’s basically Shogi plus harem, romantic comedy and sexual fanservice, but with a serious and educational focus on Shogi. Ryuuou no Oshigoto! also has multiple loli characters so you should avoid it if you aren’t deep enough in otaku culture, though it’s far tamer than stuff like Prism Illya. The Ryuo’s Work is Never Done is pretty popular overall and also got an anime in 2018.
This game was first announced back in October 2019, and was supposed to launch on February 27, 2020, but got delayed, most probably because of Covid-19.
