Remember last year when Ubisoft released a free demo for a new title Roller Champions? Well, you’ll probably remember that it was said to be heading to PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in early 2020. While it’s not there yet, there is a PC closed alpha taking place next week and sign-ups are now live.
For those that don’t know what this is, Roller Champions is a 3v3 sports title that finds players wearing rollerskates and riding around a large oval arena. Players have to fight over a ball while trying to rack up laps while holding the ball to activate the goal. Honestly, it was a hell of a lot of fun when the demo launched, and you can find out what we thought in our preview.
You can register to take part in the closed alpha here, which will use your UPlay account. The closed alpha is only available for PC players and officially starts on March 11 and through to March 23. Preloading can begin on March 9, allowing players to get it installed and ready to play the moment it unlocks on March 11.
The official times for when the game goes live and ends are scattered, so Ubisoft has issued this handy world map so you can set an alarm or something. It’s also worth pointing out that if you get granted access to the closed alpha, you’ll be able to invite two friends from your Uplay friends list to join in.
Progression isn’t carried over to the full release of the game, but those who take part in the closed alpha of Roller Champions will gain some exclusive rewards for when the game lands.
While the gameplay seems like it’ll be the same fast-paced action from the E3 demo last year, this time we’ll get to see character customization, allowing players to choose from a range of outfits, helmets, wheels and other cosmetics. The Acapulco, and Mexico City arenas return for the closed alpha and there’s a Chichén Itzá that I don’t believe was available in the E3 demo.
The closed alpha is also free from NDA, meaning if you want to stream and grab video clips, you’re free to do so.
Roller Champions is still set to launch sometime this year as a free-to-play title and will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
