During September’s Nintendo Direct we got our first look at Rogue Company, a new free-to-play multiplayer shooter for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One from Hi-Rez Studios and First Watch Games. While the SMITE publisher has not shown the game off much since then, they delved into it thoroughly during the Hi-Rez Expo 2019 Keynote. Most notably, a four-minute video showcasing several facets of Rogue Company’s development was released and you can check that out below:
In addition, First Watch Games and Hi-Rez Studios have gotten a bit clearer regarding what exactly Rogue Company is and how it plays. As they have previously mentioned, this is a multiplayer third-person shooter that follows the titular mercenary group and features cross-play across all four platforms. We have now learned that the game tasks players with taking on objective-based missions and can be played in both 2v2 and 4v4 modes.
Players start each match by skydiving into each map too, which is a fun element to take from battle royale games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Rogue Company will feature several unique characters with their own loadouts, abilities, and skills that can be used tactically in matches. These can actually be upgraded and tinkered with in between rounds, which should make matches a little more dynamic.
While the full release of Rogue Company for the Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One is not coming until 2020, alpha keys will start to trickle out today and the game is playable at Hi-Rez Expo. If you want to see the entire Keynote from Hi-Rez Expo 2019, which covers games like SMITE, Paladins and Realm Royale, you can watch the full thing below:
