In the wake of the release of Resident Evil 3 remake, a variety of rumors for Capcom’s next mainline installment in the series, Resident Evil 8, have started popping up all over the place. Today, additional rumors have started to come about which are beginning to line up with some of those that we have already heard about.
Coming by way of Biohazard Cast, a site dedicated to all things Resident Evil, some potential new information regarding Resident Evil 8 has come about. Stemming from an anonymous source that has potentially leaked credible info in the past, it is said that RE8’s official title could be that of Resident Evil 8: Village. This title would allow Capcom to use the roman numeral “VIII” and have it line up with the word “Village” in a similar manner to what the publisher did with RE7.
As for when the game would be launching, the article goes on to state that Capcom is currently planning for a Q1 2021 release, which means it would launch no later than by the end of March next year. Considering Capcom has released a Resident Evil title in this window three times previously over the past few years, it seems plausible that they could look to do so again.
Lastly, Chris Redfield, who appeared at the conclusion of Resident Evil 7, is said to play a larger, more vital role in RE8. Ethan Winters will also once again be the game’s central protagonist and it will take place in Europe, which lines up with other previous rumors that we have heard. Also, it is said that the reason why so much information regarding RE8 is starting to leak out right now is because Capcom starting doing testing for the game last month in March.
Again, it’s important to note that all of the information outlined here could end up being false or could change over time. Particularly in regards to the planned release window, as Biohazard Cast also points out, development pipelines and schedules could be changing all the time as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As such, even if the game is real, a Q1 2021 launch window could quickly change.
Still, an eighth installment in the Resident Evil series seems all-but-guaranteed to pop up eventually. The main question now just comes in the form of when Capcom will officially reveal this project. I’ve said it before, but there are way too many rumors that seem to be lining up here for this to potentially be fake or nonexistent.
That said, it’s best to keep your expectations in check until we hear more from official sources. If we’re lucky, perhaps we’ll even hear more later this month.
