While the next Resident Evil entry that is set to release will be that of the remake of Resident Evil 3 later this year, it seems some new information regarding the next numbered installment in the franchise, that of Resident Evil 8, has started to come about.
According to a new report from Residence of Evil, a YouTube channel dedicated to all things RE, Resident Evil 8 is said to be a game that will take place from the first-person perspective. The game is also said to once again place you in the shoes of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7. Chris Redfield is also said to somehow be involved with RE8 in addition to some new locations that would include a castle, new baddies such as werewolves, and the return of actual zombies instead of the mold-based foes from RE7.
The only problem with this report is that it doesn’t seem to come from a source that has much credibility. All of the above information stems from a general tip email that wqas sent to Biohazard Cast, a website that covers Resident Evil. Because of this, it’s hard to fully believe what is being said here.
That said, Eurogamer has since come forward with its own report on the matter and has stated that Resident Evil 8 will, at the very least, once again be a first-person title. This information comes from sources close to Capcom that has seemingly spoken to Eurogamer about RE8. Considering the outlet’s pedigree for reporting on rumors in the past, it seems like a good chance that this portion of the “leak” is credible.
Personally, I really love the idea of RE8 being a first-person game. While I know some fans didn’t love it, RE7’s perspective change was one of the reasons as to why that game succeeded in the way that it did. I’d love to see Capcom continue to evolve on the ideas it introduced in Resident Evil 7. Besides, I’m still getting my third-person itch scratched from this series when it comes to the remakes of both RE2 and RE3 that have come about.
It’ll likely be awhile until we hear more officially from Capcom regarding Resident Evil 8, but the game is almost certainly in development and will likely land on next-gen platforms with PS5 and Xbox Series X. Until then, Resident Evil 3 is set to arrive in just a few short months on April 3, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
