As the months continue to pass here in 2020, PlayStation fans continue to wonder just when Sony will properly reveal the upcoming PS5 console. Up until now, Sony has only unveiled the PS5’s DualSense controller in addition to the specs for the hardware. Fortunately, it seems like the platform’s formal unveiling could be transpiring next month.

In a new report from VGC, the publication states that one source has said that Sony was at one point planning to hold a rather extensive PS5 reveal event of sorts in May. However, due to changes in scheduling that have come about in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s uncertain if this is still the plan internally that Sony is moving forward with. Just a few weeks back, Sony announced that it would be delaying the highly-anticipated sequel The Last of Us Part II from its planned May release date to a new undetermined time. These changes could have also easily affected the company’s plans to show off the PS5 publicly, too.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that industry insider Daniel Ahmad has recently hinted that many forthcoming games industry announcements have also been shuffling around in the wake of E3 2020 being canned. “With E3 cancelled, a lot of the planned reveals/announcements have been moved out of that single week,” Ahmad said on Twitter. “Some are now much earlier, others much later. Some still during E3 week [of course].”

Whether or not Sony is still set to hold a PS5 reveal of some sort next month remains to be seen, but it sure would make a whole lot of sense. Considering the launch of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are only about 6 months away at this point, both Sony and Microsoft respectively need to start talking about their new platforms a bit more. While Microsoft has been a bit more outspoken about the Xbox Series X so far and has shown what the console will look like, Sony has still kept quite a bit under wraps when it comes to the PS5. Even if May comes and goes without any information on Sony’s next-gen hardware, you’d have to imagine it won’t be too much longer before news starts arriving in droves.

As of now, the only definitive thing we know about the PS5 is that it’s slated to release later this year in the holiday season. Launch games, a price point, and a specific release date all have yet to be announced, but hopefully, that will change soon.
