After surpassing 100 million PS4 units sold just a few months back, Sony today announced that the PS4 has now passed yet another milestone with its latest sales total.

Sony revealed today that another 2.8 million PS4 units were shipped around the world during the company’s most recent quarter of its fiscal year. Lifetime, this means that 102.8 million PS4 units have now been sold worldwide. This doesn’t seem that different from the previous total, but in the process, the PS4 has now hit a historic new figure.

With this new total, the PS4 is now officially the second best-selling console of all-time. It only now sits behind the PlayStation 2, which has sold over 150 million units lifetime. With these new shipment totals in the quarter, Sony passed the Nintendo Wii, which sits above 101 million units, and the PlayStation 1, which has nearly 102.5 million units sold. It’s safe to say that the PS4 has reached heights that Sony likely didn’t expect this gen.

Even though the PS4 era is definitely winding down, Sony still expects to sell quite a few million more consoles in the coming months. Sony’s projections now has it shipping another 7.5 million PS4 units in the final two quarters of this fiscal year. If that milestone is reached, the PS4’s new lifetime sales would eclipse 110 million.

With the PS5 officially confirmed to arrive next holiday season, it’ll be interesting to see how the PS4 continues to fare in its final year as Sony’s flagship console. While it likely won’t end up surpassing the total set by the PS2, I’m sure Sony is perfectly content with having the three best-selling home consoles ever.
