As the month, and ultimately the year draws to a close, Sony has blessed us with a new batch of PS Plus titles for both the PS4 and PS5, and there are some good ones.
The first title included in January’s list of games is the PS5 version of ShaRkPG, Maneater. Playing as a growing bull shark, players navigate a range of underwater environments, hunting prey, completing missions and fighting both aquatic and human foes.
The game released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One back in May and received a free next-gen upgrade when the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X launched last month. Although the game received a fairly tepid response critically, it proved to be incredibly popular on social media. In our Maneater Review, we said the game is “an enjoyable open-world romp that is just a bit too straightforward…”
The second title included in January’s free PS Plus games is Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The inclusion of this game, which released in 2018, means that all three titles in the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy have been included as part of the PS Plus monthly games promotion. Our Shadow of the Tomb Raider review said: “if you enjoyed the previous two games in this new era of Lara Croft, then I absolutely expect that you’ll dig what’s found here”.
The final free title for next month is Greedfall. The game is developed by Spiders and is a fantasy action-RPG set in the 17th century. It was recently confirmed that the game passed one million units sold and would be receiving new content in the future, alongside native PS5 and Xbox Series S|X versions. In our Greedfall review, we stated that “GreedFall is Spiders’ best game yet, but that does not mean it is perfect.”
For those unfortunate enough to have purchased Maneater recently, it looks like there’s good news. As per a Reddit post, Sony appears to be automatically offering refunds ahead of its inclusion as a free title.
These games will be free to download from January 5 to February 2 for anybody with an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
