One of the hardest parts of playing tabletop games is often the table itself. Even if you manage to convince a group of people to meet at the same place and the same time to play a tabletop game, you may find yourselves all stuck around an uncomfortable, small, table. In a move that seamlessly solves this problem, Asmodee Digital and Sony Interactive Entertainment have announced that they’re bringing the popular board game Ticket to Ride to the PlayStation 4 this year.
The upcoming adaptation will take advantage of the PlayStation 4’s PlayLink feature, allowing players to use their smartphone or tablet as a controller. Asmodee Digital’s CEO Pierre Ortolan stated that the privacy of using your own screen, “allows [them to] re-create the traditional board game experience while keeping the benefits of playing digitally.”
If you’re wary of entering the seemingly confusing world of tabletop games, Ticket to Ride is a good jumping-off point. It introduces a plethora of concepts and mechanics that make it just as fun as classic board games, but much more strategic. Of course, if you don’t feel like playing on your small kitchen table, you can wait until Ticket to Ride comes to the PlayStation 4 later this year.
