Pokemon Sword and Shield released on the Nintendo Switch at the back end of 2019. The latest instalment in the Pokemon franchise was met with a fairly solid critical reception and has gone on to sell incredibly well. It was praised for trying a variety of new ideas, including the Wild Area, whilst still staying true to its Pokemon core. For me, I had a blast with them. I enjoyed the story, loved the world and Pokemon Sword and Shield’s music was a joy.
The music was such a joy, that Japanese YouTuber ハヤテ京雲寺 (translated as Hayate Keiunji), has decided they wanted to put their own spin on things. As well as creating videos for YouTube, they are an aspiring Manga artist. You can view their Twitter account and Pixiv accounts right here, displaying a variety of their work.
Pokemon Sword and Shield Chiptune Music
On their channel, Hayate Keiunji stated “I was listening to the BGM of the town of Sword & Shield. I wanted to listen to Game Boy style! I couldn’t find it when I looked for it, so I made it myself!” and that’s exactly what they did.
Complete with artwork looking like it’s straight from Pokemon Red and Blue, Hayate Keiunji, recreated a range Sword and Shield’s best music, in the original Game Boy style. You can check out the video below.
What tracks have been recreated?
As well as the catchy opening Jingle, Hayate Keiunji remixed music from a range of the game’s locations. These included Postwick, Wedgehurst, Motostoke, Turrfield and Hulbury. We are also treated to a rendition of the Dynamax Battle Theme.
Pokemon Sword and Shield Review
We enjoyed the game in our official Pokemon Sword and Shield review. We scored it a very respectable 7.5/10, saying: “Pokemon fans like myself will still get a ton out of these games, even though they have some notable caveats.”
