The folks at Niantic and The Pokemon Company have “intercepted messages” from the evil Team GO Rocket. It looks like these thugs plan on invading a whole lot of PokeStops in the hit mobile augmented reality game Pokemon Go. Why these two companies could not prepare for the inevitable takeover is beyond me, but at least you’ll get to do some cool new activities this weekend.
Starting on Sunday, November 24 from 11 am to 1 pm in your local time zone, Team GO Rocket grunts will take over every PokeStop. Additionally, there will be exclusive Field Research tasks from Professor Willow that will aid you in finding more information on the dastardly Pokemon team.
Battling Team GO Rocket grunts will earn you Mysterious Components. Collecting six of these items will allow you to craft Rocket Radars which are used to track Team GO Rocket Leaders. Defeating members of Team GO Rocket, as well as completing Professor Willows Field Research will allow you to progress the “Looming in the Shadows” Special Reseach. This will give you the location of the Team GO Rocket Boss, Giovanni.
If this short Team GO Rocket event isn’t enough for you, the final Pokemon Go Community Day in 2019 is just around the corner. From December 14-15 from 9 am to 9 pm each day, every featured Pokemon from this year will be out more frequently. It will also give players some extra bonuses to gain more XP and Stardust.
Pokemon Go has been incredibly successful for Niantic and The Pokemon Company. In just its first month of release, which the game was only available in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, it garnered 163 million downloads. In comparison, Nintendo’s most successful mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, reached 123.9 million downloads worldwide in its first month of release.
Pokemon Go is available now on iOS and Android devices. If mobile games aren’t your thing, Pokemon Sword and Shield are both available now on Nintendo Switch.
