One of my most anticipated indie games of this year is Yoku’s Island Express, a pinball platformer revealed last year that splices the pinball gameplay found in titles like Sonic Spinball with a Metroidvania-style open world. Today, developer Villa Gorilla and publisher Team17 released a new trailer for the title that goes over the abilities players will be able to use in-game.
The first ability the trailer shows off is the Noisemaker, which is a party whistle that’s also Yoku’s postal horn. This whistle is what is mainly used to interact with objects within the game’s world. Next up is the Dive Fish, which Yoku comes across during his journey and can be used to swim underwater.
Finally, there is the Slug Vaccum. This sucks up different slugs found throughout the island and can be used to break rocks and discover new areas. Yoku’s Island Express’ gameplay is already fluid and fun at it core (it even made our Top Indie Games of E3 2017 list), so I curious to see how these different abilities will truly spice things up in-game.
You can check out the new trailer below. Yoku’s Island Express is currently poised to launch for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime during Q2 2018.
