Konami’s long standing rival to FIFA has lost two of its major licenses, the developer has confirmed. In a recent post, Konami shared that their licenses with Italian giants Inter Milan and AC Milan would not be renewed in PES going forwards.

While this looks like it could be a problem for future editions of the game, Konami wanted to reassure players who’d purchased eFootball PES 2020 that this wouldn’t affect their current games at all stating, “The representation of the Club will not be affected in eFootball PES 2020.

The two identical statements (one for each club) then goes on to thank the clubs for their support for the series before wishing them well in the future. Konami then looked to reassure fans by saying, “Moving forwards, we will continue to strengthen existing partnerships and foster new relationships in order to provide the best possible eFootball experience.”

Having now lost two big licenses in Italy, it’s unclear what the future holds for PES’ partnership with arguably the biggest team in the county, Juventus, or the rest of the league for that matter. Serie A is one of the only top leagues within PES to have the licensing deals to all of the clubs, badges, players, and kits, but this seems now to be hampered going forwards. This looks like, unfortunately for PES fans, that FIFA will be pulling even further ahead in the race for footballing supremacy.

This news follows hot on the heels of the announcement that while the real-world version of the EURO 2020 Championships had been postponed until next year, Konami would be adding content based on the tournament into this year’s game. Keep your eyes here for more PES and FIFA 21 news as it happens.
