Persona 5 Royal doesn’t have a release date in the West yet, but as of today, it has launched in Japan. To celebrate the game’s release, Atlus has apparently pulled out all of the stops with the game’s marketing.
As seen in a recent tweet from the official Japanese Persona account on Twitter, as soon as it hit midnight and Persona 5 Royal launched in Japan, many of the billboards and digital screens in Tokyo’s district of Shibuya were suddenly changed and began playing trailers for the game. Shibuya is one of the most common locales that you can visit in Persona 5 and it was cool to see the area simultaneously playing trailers for the latest entry in the series.

This takeover of Shibuya via some of the billboards in the region was reminiscent of the new opening movie that plays before Persona 5 Royal. If you haven’t seen the game’s new opening, it sees the logo of the Phantom Thieves appearing on many screens throughout the city. The Thieves then end up walking around the city and bashing in many of the screens with baseball bats though, which, unfortunately, didn’t end up happening in real life.
Persona 5: Royal is out now in Japan and is slated to arrive in the West sometime in 2020. Based on previous rumors and possible leaks, it could be arriving on PS4 in March 2020, but Atlus hasn’t confirmed as much yet.
While we hold out for a proper release date though, you can check out Persona 5 Royal’s new opening cinematic down below.
