Persona 5 Royal is the definitive way to play DualShockers’ 2017 Game of the Year. Atlus’ masterpiece already featured copious amounts of content, but the Royal addition injected even more to do. If you haven’t played it yet, it seems you’re one of the few. A recent article from peronacentral.com reported that Sega recently revealed that the game hit “record sales” in the West.
Of course, that’s no surprise for fans of the game. Persona 5 was already a smash hit. When Atlus announced they were pumping even more content into the game with Royal, it was a no brainer. Of course, what probably is a surprise for Sega is how much of impact digital sales have had on the game. Given the times we’re living in, it makes complete sense for the “ratio of digital sales” to increase significantly. However, you have to assume Sega wasn’t planning for this huge influx of digital copies sold.
Sega has yet to provide us with a clear, new sales figure; however, we do know a few things from previous reports. In its first month in Japan, the game had shipped over 400K copies. Persona 5 Royal also topped the sales charts in both Taiwan and South Korea. Plus, it was in the top ten for both the UK and US charts during its opening weeks. Again, that doesn’t give us a clear number, but it does tell you that the game is wildly successful.
Persona 5 Royal is available now on PS4. Our reviewer loved new content and gameplay overhauls, so, if you haven’t had a chance, we highly recommend you give it a look.
