Grinding Gear Games has announced that they will be brining action RPG Path of Exile to PlayStation 4 on December 7, 2018 alongside the 3.5.0 expansion that was previously announced for PC and Xbox One versions of the game.

Path of Exile originally came to consoles with an Xbox One version in August of 2017, and will now finally be making its way over to Sony’s popular console in time for the holiday season.

Developed as a continuation of Diablo II‘s core gameplay, Path of Exile launched on PC in 2013 after an open beta phase and lengthy development. Multiple expansions have come to the game since release, with seven having released thus far.

This announcement comes at a very opportune time for Grinding Gear Games, as Blizzard has been suffering blowback to their mobile Diablo game: Diablo Immortals, which was announced this past weekend at Blizzcon. Path of Exile is a free to play game with only cosmetic microtransactions and very specific features paywalled, and holds close to the roots of the Diablo franchise.

Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. It is designed around a strong online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races. The game is completely free and will never be “pay to win”.

No cross play will be included at launch, as Sony has been slow to respond to any cross-platform play after it relented in the face of Fortnite earlier this year. And as usual with all game announcements or ports, a Switch version has been requested although doubtful it will happen as it took Grinding Gear Games quite some time to bring this title from PC to Xbox and now to PlayStation.
