It’s that time of the month, and the NPD released its monthly results describing the situation of the gaming market in the United States in July.

All figures were up this month, including software, hardware and accessory sales. Hardware was driven by by new supply of Nintendo Switch console and by the continued strength of PS4, while software was pushed by Splatoon 2 and Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy.

The software top-twenty can be found below.

As usual sales for Nintendo’s games don’t include digital figures, while Overwatch’s figures don’t include those made on the Battle.net PC platform.

Nintendo was the best-selling software publisher of the month, with Splatoon 2 as the driving factor, despite the fact that the company’s digital sales aren’t counted. Interestingly, we also learn that looking at the overall market, sales of RPG (including JRPG) have grown by 50% year-on-year.

The Switch was the best-selling platform of the month, and alongside PS4 it took the majority of the hardware market, indicating that the two consoles were pretty much neck-and-neck in sales. PS4 remains the best selling console of the year, which it rather unsurprising considering that the Switch launched in March.

The Xbox One makes its appearance in the accessories field, where its controllers and the line-up for Switch pushed sales up 9% year-on-year.
