Yesterday, rumors began swirling that developer Armature Studios accidentally leaked that they are working on Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS4. Although every other outlet under the sun was happy to report the rumor, we decided to ask the source: Armature. While no one would be happier to see Metal Gear Solid HD Collection make it to PS4, Armature is not working on the project.
Word comes Jonathan Zamkoff, head of business development at Armature Studios. When asked by DualShockers if they were working on Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS4, he let us know that it was a typo on an otherwise new website:
Unfortunately this was simply a typo by one of our web developers and is neither a leak nor indication that the MGS HD collection is coming to PS4. Or that Armature is working on any new MGS games.
In the interim, they are going to be pulling the bad information from the website down.
But where does this rumor come from? It began swirling early last night on Reddit when Redditor naninho205 noticed that Armature’s website listed — among other things — that they worked on Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS4 (and PlayStation Vita):
But as noted, that seems to only be a typo on the page, which has since been corrected by Armature. However, all things on the internet spread quickly and rumors are a pernicious beast to stop once they start. With this in mind, there are more than a few outlets that have already reported on the rumor without trying to source whether it was true:
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was a Kojima Productions project for PS3 and Xbox 360. The game was later picked up by Armature Studios to bring a PlayStation Vita port in 2012, but they are not working on the series at the moment.
