Earlier this week, Platinum Games revealed a new Nintendo Switch exclusive title called Astral Chain. The developer has added the game to their official website, giving fans some new details on the game’s storyline, gameplay, and a few other things. Additionally, some screenshots that look like they’re from scenes in the initial reveal trailer were uploaded to the site so you can check those out down below.
Astral Chain’s plot will revolve around a multicultural cyberpunk city known as The Ark. Dimensional gates begin to open up around the city and obviously, evil creatures start coming through and causing havoc. You’re a member of the Ark’s police force and a special task unit known as Neuron. Humanity uses special ‘living weapons’ called the Legion. Combat can be executed using the synergy between you and your Legion. Players will have several different Legion to choose from.
Players will also have the opportunity to choose one of two characters during the adventure, male or female. The two are twin siblings and depending on which you choose, the other will act as your closest squadmate throughout the narrative. Masakazu Katsura, the man behind the manga series Zetman and Video Girl Ai, designed the two protagonists as well as the various Legion weapons.
As of right now, that’s all the information we have on Astral Chain. Platinum Games is responsible for a multitude of critically acclaimed action games like Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Astral Chain, in particular, is being helmed by studio veteran Takahisa Taura (Nier: Automata) who’ll be making his directorial debut with this title. Also, Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta) is providing supervision. This is the second title from Platinum Games being developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, the other is Bayonetta 3. The studio also has a third game in development called Babylon’s Fall, which will be coming to PS4 and PC via Steam.
Astral Chain will launch for the Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2019.
