Today the statistics firm Media Create released its weekly analysis of the situation on the Japanese market, and we get an interesting piece of information.
After the 15th week on the shelves (as of June 11th), the Nintendo Switch has an attach rate of 1.60. For those unfamiliar with the term, “attach rate” indicates the ratio of games sold per console sold, basically, how many games the average owner of that console has purchased.
Media Create also mentions that the Switch’s attach rate is superior to that of the Wii U in the same time frame, which was 1.45.
The best selling Nintendo Switch games in Japan might be unpredictable (at least their order) to the western eye: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is actually on top with 505.270 units sold, having topped the weekly charts once more this week. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild follows with 494,526 copies sold.
This is explained by the fact that the Zelda franchise has always been less popular in Japan than in the west, while Mario Kart‘s popularity has always been quite strong. Even the arcade version is typically very appreciated by Japanese gamers and families.
