Time sure does fly when you are traversing the Fountain of Dreams — the fan favorite Nintendo character and pink puff ball just celebrated his own 25th birthday a little less than two weeks ago. And by way of recognizing the occasion, publisher Nintendo has released a sizzle reel of every game within the Kirby series.
Starting with his humble creation in 1992, Kirby made his debut on the Game Boy in Kirby’s Dream Land. Sporting grayscale coloring, a plainer face, and scaled down gameplay mechanics, the game is truly the series infancy. The video goes on to show off some of the more distinctive games (Kirby Super Star, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards), the bad games (Kirby Fighters Deluxe), the obscure (Kirby’s Star Stacker) and even the vastly underappreciated Kirby Air Ride. With 29 games within 25 years, developer HAL Laboratory has been obviously busy.
More importantly, the video ends on footage of the upcoming Nintendo Switch game. That game was announced at this year’s E3 with an unrevealed title, currently slated for a 2018 launch. Also noteworthy, Nintendo is celebrating Kirby’s 25th birthday with a live orchestral concert featuring iconic Kirby music that fans can catch for around $22.
