Despite only having just launched Resident Evil 3 last week, it seems Capcom is already gauging interest from fans with what they’d like to see from the franchise next.
In a new survey on Capcom’s website, the publisher has asked fans of Resident Evil what they would potentially like to see in the future. While most of this survey is dedicated to Capcom’s newest release, Resident Evil 3, and the new multiplayer offering, Resident Evil Resistance, there are some questions towards the end that deal with future installments.
Specifically, Capcom wants to know if fans would be interested in either getting new remakes in the Resident Evil series along with asking if they would also be interested in new sequels, too. Each question then asks the survey-taker to specify whether or not they’d purchase new titles such as this “even if I had to buy a new console.” Clearly, it seems Capcom is starting to turn the page to next-gen with the upcoming releases of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
It’s worth noting though that just because Capcom is asking these questions doesn’t mean anything specific is in the pipeline. Japanese publishers specifically seem to have surveys like this somewhat often where they gauge fan interest on potential future products. Just recently, Atlus had a similar survey where it inquired if fans would want to see Persona 5 Scramble come to the west.
That being said, recent rumors do suggest that Capcom is already hard at work on the next installment in the RE franchise, which is said to be that of Resident Evil 8. One prominent leaker recently claimed that RE8 is indeed real and that it’s set to be properly unveiled later this month. Furthermore, it will launch next year and will be coming to both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This all remains to be seen, of course, but it is potentially exciting.
Regardless of what Capcom decides to do next, one thing’s for certain: Resident Evil isn’t going away any time soon. With the franchise in arguably its most ideal position of all time, Capcom will surely continue to pump more games out in this series as we move forward.
