Today Media Create released its weekly analysis, and it included some interesting information on the launch of the new CUH-ZVR2 PlayStation VR that hit the local shelves on October 14th.

We learn that the revised headset sold 27,000 units in its first week in the country. Thanks to the sharp increase of stores selling it, this was the second biggest week since the local debut window, during which PlayStation VR sold 52,000 copies.

Interestingly, this also brings the total tally of Japanese sales for Sony’s VR headset over 200,000 units, and more precisely at 217,000.

The launch of the headset did not push the main PS4 console much, with the standard model selling 16,933 units, and the Pro version remaining stable at 5,773. On the other hand, the Switch retained a certain momentum with 40, 803 units sold.

Like the Switch, PlayStation VR has been plagued by shortages in Japan pretty much since its release last October, with Sony apparently unwilling to overcommit and ship many headsets. The release of the new model (which you can see featured in a few recent videos) appears to be a change of pace in this policy, alongside a sizable increase of the list of local retailers carrying the headset.
