Paradox Interactive, the publishers and developers behind every 4X or strategy game you’ve ever liked and then some, got a little bigger today. Through a press announcement on its site, Paradox Interactive announced the launch of a new studio, Paradox Tinto. This new studio’s mission will be to focus on “new games in the grand strategy genre.”
To accomplish that goal, Paradox Interactive has placed one of its heavy hitters at the head of this new studio – Studio Lead Johan Andersson, a veteran of Paradox Development Studio and the original creator of the Europa Universalis franchise. According to the studio’s press release, Andersson will “assemble a small core to initially oversee ongoing development on Paradox’s iconic grand strategy game, Europa Universalis IV,” before later moving on to new games in the genre.
In the post, Andersson expressed his excitement for the future of Tinto, as well as the work going into Europa Universalis IV and future grand strategy titles. “I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to build up a new studio in a new location, putting the knowledge accumulated through the decades of building games and development studios into good use,” said Andersson. “My goal is to assemble a team and create a fully functional studio to keep on developing the Europa Universalis brand, and later design and develop new grand strategy games.”
Naturally with a new studio opening, Paradox Tinto will also need more workers. If you’re looking for a position in game development in sunny Barcelona, you can check out the open positions here. According to Chief Operations Officer at Paradox Interactive, Charlotta Nilsson, the opening of this new studio is due to the company’s recent success. In the press release, she said that Paradox Interactive currently has “around 70 open positions across our seven studios, with plans to recruit roughly 200 people in 2020 alone.”
