Today Ubisoft released a new trailer of its upcoming open-world action RPG Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
This time around the video presented in 4K is about naval gameplay and exploration. We heard that a lot of tech was created in order to have a seamless transition between the sea and the beaches.
In comparison to previous Assassin’s Creed games that had naval warfare, this time around combat isn’t based on cannons, but on javelins and arrows, which makes short-range battles more relevant.
Mobility is also more important, with better agility and acceleration, so players can narrowly dodge ramming attacks. Cleaving ships in half with your own ram is advantageous because it restores some of your own ship’s health and rewards you with additional resources.
Defeated ships can be looted, and the bigger they are, the bigger the reward is.
There are unique ships that bring forth additional challenges. If you encounter them at low level, you may have to run away.
We also learn how we can build our crew by recruiting lieutenants with unique perks and abilities. Of course, there are plenty of sea shanties, some of which are even about the player’s actions as the game progresses.
You can check it out below. If you want to see more about the game, you can also check out an earlier video about combat, another about RPG mechanics, and plenty of footage of the game from E3 2018. You can also grab yourself a dedicated PS4 theme and read our hands-on preview.
The game will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 5th, with two days of early access if you purchase one of the special editions.
Assassn’s Creed Odyssey game is already available for pre-order on Amazon.
