It’s almost here! It’s almost time for the team at Netherrealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to finally unveil the gameplay for their long-awaited upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat 11. With the reveal event scheduled for later this week, it seems that the visceral franchise will be undergoing to further alterations outside of the core games, namely Mortal Kombat X Mobile.
Mortal Kombat X Mobile launched alongside its bigger, badder counterpart as a tie-in title back in 2015. Since then, the game has continued to introduce fighters and costumes in order the keep gameplay feeling fresh.
Announced this morning via Mortal Kombat’s official Facebook page, the game will be soon be changing its name. It will be dropping both the “X” and the “Mobile” from its title and simply running under the trimmed down name of Mortal Kombat.
This will make it the third game in the long-running franchise to bear this particular name, with the arcade original also going by Mortal Kombat, along with the 2010 reboot which saw the series returning to its 2D roots.
The post continues, stating that using this name will allow the game to incorporate more of the Mortal Kombat’s enormous universe. It’s safe to assume that characters and costumes from Mortal Kombat 11 will be appearing in the mobile title in the near future.
Mortal Kombat X Mobile is available now to download and play for free on both Android and iOS devices.
