Thanks to the team over at Entertainment Weekly, we finally have some great stills from the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. We’re only about two months away from the movie launching in theaters and on HBO Max, so it’s great to get a better look at the actors in character. Of course, you’d love to see a trailer, but that should be coming sooner or later. That said, the small taste we are getting is more than enough to tide me over. Check it out below.

That screen above is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ll share a few more below, but you should click through to see EW’s full spread. Alongside the new screens, EW got a bit of insight from the movie’s director. Most notably, the game is on pace for an R-rating. That’s the news all Mortal Kombat fans were hoping to hear as that means lots o blood, gore, and fatalities.
Look, the original Mortal Kombat movie is dumb fun. However, it never matched the over-the-top violence that makes the video game series so beloved. So, knowing that they’ll now be able to go all the way into how wild MK is.
Another interesting tidbit from the EW story is that Lewis Tan will be playing a brand new character to the MK universe. It sounds like he’ll be the audience surrogate that lets new fans into the broader universe. I can’t’ wait to see how he factors into everything going on.
Mortal Kombat launches in theaters and hits HBO Max on April 16. While you wait, make sure to check out Mortal Kombat 11 to get yourself in the mood for some gnarly fights. And check out a few of the screens from EW below.
